meeting people

last night we were invited to a Christmas party by our friends Matt and Millie. not really knowing much about it and having only spent time with Matt and Millie once we didn't know what to expect but we agreed to go. it sounded fun. so midway through a project at school i packed up and got on the bus home to get ready for the evening. the bus ride was almost 45 minutes (it usually takes about 15 or 20) and i fell asleep... only to wake with a start as the doors of the bus were open in front of me and i realized i needed to get off the bus at the stop it was at! i hurried off only to nearly be hit by a bicycle while i was crossing the street. made it across and into our apartment. i hadn't eaten much so i grabbed a piece of leftover pizza and got in the shower (the pizza still in my hand). starting the showering process and gulping down a snack was a new thing for me, usually i'm not in that big of a hurry but the long bus ride had put me behind schedule. put on some clothes after the shower, fed the cats, and ran out the door. the one bus ride and one train ride got me out to Lincoln Square (where Shauna works) just on time. we were to be picked up at 5:40 and Matt and Millie were on time. we had a nice ride out to Evanston to a house where a small group meets that Matt and Millie are a part of. plenty of tasty treats to eat, and interesting people to meet. we had a really nice time. as we were about to leave we were asked by Myron (the man who with his wife had opened his home to us) what kind of music we listen to. this is usually an interesting question for me because i tend to like things that most people haven't heard of (and if they have they don't like them much). last night wasn't that kind of experience. first i told Myron about my latest favorite music "Listener"... (the only reason i know of "Listener" is that i have great friend (Dale) who introduces me to all kinds of great music!) now, this music i admit is not for everyone, it has taken Shauna a while to warm up to it and even now she doesn't love it the way i do. "Listener" is comprised of two guys (usually, sometimes there are guest musicians involved) and a computer. the computer is in control of the background music, while one guy talks and the other plays various instruments (including my favorite: a washing machine played with an ax handle wrapped with duct-tape!)... words really fail me to describe it (if you are interested you should watch the latest video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyTejjdHejs
so, back to talking with Myron. he was really interested when i told him about "Listener". he mentioned that he really likes "Portishead" which is a group that i have really liked for a long time... it was really cool to find someone who likes music that is maybe a little more on the fringe of culture. the other music we talked about (which is music i would recommend if you are interested in these things) : mewithoutYou, Sixteen Horsepower, Woven Hand. this story broke down really fast. sorry.

Did your pizza get wet before you ate it?
